Important Note:
What Is an ETA, and Is It Different from an E-Visa?

The South African ETA was initially introduced for four countries, including China. It has since been expanded to include nationals of many additional countries, who may now apply for an ETA.

An ETA is a digital travel authorisation that allows eligible foreign nationals to travel to the Republic of South Africa and present themselves at a port of entry.

- Travellers from visa-required countries are issued a Port of Entry Visa (Section 10(a)).
- Travellers from visa-exempt countries receive an Electronic Travel Authorisation.
- Once processed at the port of entry, travellers are issued the relevant visitor’s visa (Section 11).

The ETA is currently implemented at the following airports:

- OR Tambo International Airport
- Cape Town International Airport
- Lanseria International Airport
- King Shaka International Airport

Travellers intending to visit South Africa for short-term purposes (up to 90 days) may apply for an ETA for reasons including:

- Tourism for up to 90 days
- Short-term work for up to 90 days

**How long is an ETA valid?**

The validity period is linked to your intended travel dates. An ETA is typically valid for up to six months from the date of issue and allows multiple entries. Each stay is limited to a maximum of 90 days.

**Documents to present at the port of entry**

You may be required to present the following documents:

- A valid passport
- Your ETA approval
- A return or onward ticket
- Proof of accommodation
- An invitation letter (for work purposes)
- Proof of sufficient funds
- A yellow fever certificate, if applicable

Initially, Nigerian passport holders were issued one-year multiple-entry visas. The validity period has since been reduced to six months, while retaining multiple-entry status.

This visa permits you to visit South Africa for up to 90 days per stay. If you wish to remain longer, you may apply for an extension. We can assist with the extension process.

The six-month validity period refers to the period during which the visa may be used; the visa expires if it has not been used by the end of that period.

We can also assist individuals who have overstayed in South Africa and need to apply to have their ban lifted.

**Why should I process my ETA through Visapaper?**

We ensure that your ETA application complies with applicable legal procedures and is issued in accordance with the purpose of your visit. We also monitor its progress and help ensure that the airline can verify your authorization for boarding. If you require assistance upon arrival to facilitate a faster clearance process at the port of entry, we can help.
